Cite AI vs Rank Prompt
Both track your brand across six AI engines. The difference isn't the feature list — it's the unit you buy. Cite AI sells a panel that re-runs weekly. Rank Prompt sells a monthly pool of credits you spend one scan at a time. That changes what tracking actually costs.

Rank Prompt details from rankprompt.com public pricing as of August 2026, quoted at monthly list rates ($49 / $89 / $149 / $299); annual billing is roughly 20% lower. Credit-to-prompt conversions assume a weekly refresh (4.33 runs per prompt per month) — at a monthly refresh a credit pool goes considerably further. A panel is not a budget
Rank Prompt's credit is a clean unit: one credit scans one prompt across all six engines at once. What it doesn't include is time. Credits reset monthly, don't roll over, and every refresh spends more of them — so the real question isn't how many prompts you can track, it's how many prompts times how often.
Run the conversion at a weekly cadence, which is roughly 4.33 runs per prompt per month. Twenty prompts is about 87 credits — comfortable on Rank Prompt Starter at $49, against Cite AI Starter at $19. A hundred and fifty prompts is about 650 credits, which overshoots Rank Prompt Pro's 500 and lands you on Agency at $149, against Cite AI Pro at $99. Five hundred prompts is about 2,165 credits, just past Agency Plus's 2,000, so $299 plus overage against Cite AI Agency at $299 flat.
The honest flip side: if you only refresh monthly, the arithmetic reverses and a credit pool is the cheaper instrument. We think weekly is the floor for a panel you'd act on — but that's a judgement about measurement, not a pricing trick, and you should decide it before you compare the numbers.
Brand seats are free. Runs are the scarce resource.
Rank Prompt Pro carries up to 100 brands on 500 credits a month. Read that as a capacity claim and it's enormous; read it as a measurement claim and it's five scans per brand per month. The seat count is generous because seats cost nothing to give away — the constraint that decides whether your data means anything is the credit pool underneath it.
This is the same reason Cite AI sizes plans around statistical thresholds rather than headline capacity. AI answers vary run to run, so a handful of scans on a small panel measures model randomness more than it measures your content. Under 50 prompts you're in discovery mode; 50+ gives a usable brand baseline; 100+ is where competitive share-of-voice becomes something you can act on. Our significance meter says out loud when your panel is too small to support the conclusion you're about to draw.
Where the honest answer is Rank Prompt
Rank Prompt tracks Grok, which we don't. It bundles AI article generation and automated outreach into the same credit pool, ships an MCP server and API, and offers white-label client portals from the Agency tier up. If you want one tool that both measures and produces — and you're comfortable with content generation drawing down the same budget as your tracking — that's a coherent product and we don't sell it.
Cite AI is narrower on purpose. Measurement you can defend in a client deck, plus audits and fix briefs that tell a writer what to change — and neither of those spends your tracking budget to run. The bet is that the number you report to a client is worth more when nothing about how it was produced is negotiable month to month.
Frequently asked
Is Cite AI a good Rank Prompt alternative?
If you want a fixed panel that re-runs itself every week without metering, yes. Rank Prompt sells a monthly credit pool where one credit buys one scan of one prompt across its engines, so the cost of tracking depends on how often you refresh. Tracking 150 prompts weekly burns roughly 650 credits a month, which puts you on Rank Prompt Agency at $149/month against Cite AI Pro at $99/month with weekly re-runs included.
How do credits compare to tracked prompts?
They are not the same unit. A tracked prompt on Cite AI is re-run weekly for as long as you keep it in your panel. A Rank Prompt credit is consumed once, per scan, and credits do not roll over month to month. To convert, multiply your prompt count by your refresh cadence: 150 prompts checked weekly is about 650 scans a month. If you only refresh monthly, a credit pool can be cheaper — 150 prompts once a month fits Rank Prompt Starter at $49.
What does Rank Prompt offer that Cite AI does not?
Grok (xAI) tracking, AI article generation and automated outreach inside the same tool, an MCP server and API, and white-label client portals from the Agency tier up. If you want content production bundled with monitoring rather than measurement you can defend on its own, Rank Prompt is built for that and Cite AI is not.
What does Cite AI provide that Rank Prompt does not?
The exact snippet an engine cited and the role each URL played in the answer — cited, fetched-but-skipped, searched, or SERP-only — rather than a single visibility score. Plus a statistical significance meter that tells you whether a change in your panel is a real movement or model noise, site audits that do not consume your tracking budget, and a 14-day trial with no card.
Which is better for a local business?
Cite AI targets a prompt at a city or metro ("Charlotte, NC") and publishes how precisely each engine can be localized, because that precision is not uniform — Google AI Overviews, AI Mode, ChatGPT, Claude and Gemini resolve to a city, while Perplexity is country-granular and we say so rather than implying otherwise. Rank Prompt advertises tracking across locations and languages but does not document the granularity it resolves to, so we cannot tell you whether two cities in the same country return different answers there. If your customers are within driving distance, that is the question to ask them before you buy.
Which is cheaper for an agency?
It depends on how often you refresh. Cite AI Agency at $299/month covers 500 prompts re-run weekly, with no per-run metering to budget around. Matching that cadence on Rank Prompt takes roughly 2,165 credits a month, which is past Agency Plus’s 2,000 and into overage at $0.25/credit. If your clients only need a monthly snapshot, the credit model costs less and we would rather say so than pretend otherwise.
