Cite AI — Feature Guide

Understand your brand's
AI visibility

Cite AI tracks how ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, Perplexity, Google AI Overviews, and Google AI Mode cite your brand in their answers. Use these docs to understand each feature and what to do with the data it surfaces.

Quickstart Guide

Getting started with Answer Engine Optimization (AEO) tracking only takes a few minutes. Follow these steps to set up monitoring for your brand:

  1. Create a Project: Input your company's primary brand domain (e.g., yourcompany.com). This domain is used to highlight your brand citations in all reports.
  2. Add Tracked Prompts: Define the exact prompts and questions you want to track (e.g., “best CRM for real estate agents”).
  3. Add Competitors: List up to 10 competitor domains to see how your share compares against a tracked set. Your headline Share of Voice is measured against every cited domain, so this is context rather than the scoreboard.
  4. Initial Run: Cite AI automatically triggers an initial run as soon as you add your first prompts so you can see results immediately without waiting for the weekly scheduled run.

Core AEO & GEO Concepts

Before analyzing your reports, make sure to read our concept guides detailing how generative search recommends your brand:

Important Billing & Plan Details

Cite AI provides a 14-day cardless free trial when you register, allowing you to track up to 20 prompts under 1 project. Once the 14-day period expires, scheduled weekly executions are suspended (no new data will populate) until you upgrade to a paid subscription plan.

What is a “Tracked Prompt”?

Unlike traditional SEO tools where you track thousands of individual keywords, Cite AI tracks complex prompts (full questions or instructions). Each prompt is executed weekly across all supported engines (ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, Perplexity, Google AI Overviews, AI Mode) to monitor citations.

Run Frequency & Scheduling

All projects run automatically on a scheduled weekly cadence at the beginning of the week. Active projects also trigger an initial run immediately when prompts are first configured.
